ZKB headquarters, Zurich

ZKB Hauptsitz, Zürich, Fischer Architekten AG Zürich

A competition was set up for the adaptation and renovation of the main building of Zürcher Kantonalbank on Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich. The proposed measures preserve the substance of this commercial building and equip it for the long-term future.

The ZKB sees itself as client-oriented bank. Therefore, the goal of the competition project was to create a greater sense of opening outwards and in this way to convey the image of a modern and transparent bank.

The tall, bright customers hall forms the heart of the building. In a friendly atmosphere, visitors are received at an information desk before their individual needs are catered to. The offices on the upper floors were to be brought up to contemporary standards, above all with regard building services, and adapted to the needs of the staff. The two roof levels were replaced by a new homogenous rooftop element which, like the redesigned customers hall, is oriented on the existing loadbearing structure.
