Sunnewaid, Zurich Leimbach

Sunnewaid, Zürich Leimbach, Fischer Architekten AG Zürich

The intention was that the new replacement Sunnewaid development in Zurich Leimbach should offer a wide range of family-friendly apartments. The competition entry envisages an attractive east-west orientation for all the apartments in the development and meets the stringent requirements of the Minergie-P-ECO standard. The competition was stopped before the jury met.

The urban district of Leimbach lies along the axis of the main southern approach to Zurich in the Sihltal. The easy accessibility of the centre, the existing infrastructure, and the proximity to areas of landscape constitute the qualities of this place. The Sunnewaid development is a new family-friendly housing estate that replaces an existing one.

The project proposal envisages four buildings of different lengths, which are placed in two rows and are oriented along the existing topography. The apartments face east and west and therefore have morning and evening sun. A daytime space that extends through the depth of the building shapes the apartment layout. From the studio to the five-and a-half room apartment, from the maisonette to the highly attractive roof-top apartment with extensive views, the Sunnewaid development offers a wide range of apartment types.

The excellent insulation and the simple and compact geometry of the building envelope allow an optimal heat insulation performance to be expected. The clear and simple building services concept, which is based on minimising the length of pipe runs, supports the goals in the area of sustainability.
