Ecoplace, Zurich

Ecoplace, Zürich, Fischer Architekten AG Zürich

The Ecoplace housing development in Zurich’s Letzi district is a residential world for modern city-dwellers, which combines comfort and functionality with ecological criteria. The architectural expression and the choice of materials contribute to the charm of this district, whose character still evokes its industrial past.

The idea behind the urban development in Zurich’s Letzi district was to create an attractive housing supply through islands with new functions. The name “Ecoplace” also stands for a newly developed housing concept, implemented for the first time here, which places state-of-the-art networked building technology at the service of ecological spaces.

The apartment building that contains 36 rental apartments is based on a clearly structured plan. The rooms for daytime use extend through the depth of the building, ending on both sides in a balcony, terrace, or loggia. A layer of rooms on the long side of the living space establishes order in the floor plan. This structural clarity is appropriately expressed by the horizontally articulated facade, which is accentuated differently on the different sides of the building.
