Rebwiesstrasse, Zollikon

Rebwiesstrasse, Zollikon, Fischer Architekten AG Zürich

The attractive location high above Zollikon called for a housing development of high quality. Thanks to the intelligent way in which the buildings are stepped on the slightly sloping site this competition entry, which was awarded first prize, provides ideal orientation for all the apartments. Despite the unobstructed view across the core city, Lake Zurich and, in part, the Alps, the generously sized balconies and outdoor spaces offer plenty of privacy.

The site in Zollikon, close to the city of Zurich on the right bank of the lake, is surrounded by single-family houses and apartment buildings. The large amount of greenery and the open development in this district offer a variety of private zones and views of Lake Zurich, the city and the Uetliberg.

The positioning of the five new point buildings is based on this district’s existing grain. A high degree of permeability is created, leading to flowing outdoor spaces. The placing of the buildings and their stepped heights provide ideal orientation and plenty of sunlight for all apartments and create differentiated outdoor spaces.

All the flats are clearly separated into daytime and nigh-time areas. The spacious living and dining rooms extend onto the balconies in front of them, which, as they face in different directions, ensure a high degree of individuality. As parts of the “balcony rooms” have a two-storey void they allow the winter sun to enter the living rooms. Each of apartments in the plinths has a generously sized outdoor space.
